Dedication
Civic Trust Auckland is dedicated to protection of the natural, cultural and built environment and to the application of best practice in the future planning and development of the Auckland region.
Civic Trust Auckland is not burdened with the responsibility of saving the planet, although, if its founding principles were adhered to everywhere, then that task would be so much easier. The intention is to save, secure and plan for a better future, within our local sphere of influence.
To do this it is necessary to be aware of what is at risk, debate the inevitable conflicts between potential loss and any benefits of development, which may be in the public good and arrange for effective action where necessary. This is the serious side of any public interest group, involving the formation of specialist sub-committees, discussion with and co-operation between fellow and allied groups and submissions to those who have the power to effect change.
Summary
In brief, we try to save anything of heritage value and we encourage development, of a type which will itself represent heritage to future generations.
We essentially
Enjoy
We also take pleasure in what has been achieved so far, for although much has been destroyed, there is enough left to give us pride, joy and a greater understanding of our urbanized existence.

Our Logo and Home Page
Civic Trust Auckland has had a logo for many years, incorporating a fluted column, an arch and diagrammatic images of the sea and Rangitoto Island. These are intended to represent icons of architecture and the Auckland Region respectively.
Originally the logo contained wording around the perimeter, recently removed. The arch/column image has also been reversed. Note that in classical architecture an arch would never end at a column. This gives the logo tension and reflects the tenuous nature of the built and natural environments today.
The logo was kindly re-drawn and digitised by Rachel Head.
The photo on our home page was taken by Munroe Graham from Te Atatu, showing the delicate land/sea interface in the foreground, the harbour bridge, City, Sky tower and several volcanic features, all either iconic or representative of matters of importance to Civic Trust Auckland.
