First Winter Lecture

Our first Winter Lecture was held at the delightful home of Mary Barry and Tom Curham in Bradford St, Parnell, on Sunday 10 July.  This cottage from the late 1800s has been lovingly restored by Mary and Tom, and they and one of their children, Kieren, shared their memories of this process before a very appreciate audience of 20, gathered around the sitting room fire.

The cottage is a very liveable combination of some original features alongside furniture and fittings sourced from a variety of places over an extended period of time, and in keeping with the style of the dwelling.  We were afforded a very comprehensive tour, with the many distinctive small spaces revealed on each of the three levels.

Being a fine winter’s day, at the end of the tour, over a glass of wine, we were able to appreciate the view across Parnell towards the harbour.  We also enjoyed looking through the photos of the restoration work.

Our second lecture is on 25 September in Devonport.  Details to come.
