Links
An important feature of this website is to publicise the existence of a wide range of kindred and other organisations and to provide direct links to those with websites.
The various organisations currently compiled within this preliminary list are set out under sub-headings and can be accessed from the sub-heading panels on the left side of this links page.
Beyond New Zealand, there are numerous Civic Trusts, in particular, the Civic Trust, which is a nationwide trust in Great Britain, the parent organisation of a number of British Civic Trusts and a guiding forerunner to Civic Trust Auckland. For those who wish to obtain details of any of the multitude of Civic Trusts elsewhere in the world, it is best to use a standard international search engine.
Civic Trust Auckland encourages all kindred organisations which have been inadvertently missed from this initial list, to make contact, so that they may be included within this site in the future, whether or not they currently have web sites themselves.

Website:
www.UNESCO.org/English
It is part of the United Nations. It contains a list of world heritage sites, of which there are three, coming within the territory of New Zealand.
Wikipedia- A worldwide free encyclopaedia
Website:
www.wikipedia.org
Although not in itself a kindred organisation, it is a very useful search engine for data recovery. Interesting matters, which can be searched through Wikipedia include the original 7 wonders of the ancient world. Historians have since mused over which human artefacts would have been added to that list if they had been known in ancient times. Others have wondered what modern marvels would have been added subsequent to the industrial revolution and there is a third category natural wonders, for which a tentative list is suggested in this, the World's largest encyclopaedia.

Other Organizations and Professional Institutes
Geological Society of New Zealand
Website:
www.gsnz.org.nz
This is an important organisation, with a particularly active Auckland branch. This site contains a list of geological artefacts, sites and localities throughout New Zealand which are of international, national or local significance and therefore worthy of protection.
Civic Trust Auckland supports the concept that such sites, including all these, should be publicised and protected and, in conjunction with the New Zealand Geological Society, will undertake its best endeavours to ensure that local authorities are aware of and give protection to that Society's listed features, both within this region and beyond.

The EEZ is of continental size, far larger than the New Zealand landmass, and can be compared with the continental shelf, which government also administers in terms of sea floor prospecting and development rights.

Regional Authorities
Auckland Regional Council
Website:
www.arc.org.nz
This is a most sophisticated web site, well worthy of a quiet scroll, worthy also of having as a series of "favourite" web destinations. It contains a section dealing with brief histories of Auckland, both Maori and Pakeha. There are comprehensive chapters dealing with regional reserves, of which the locality is blessed with many. Other parts of this site deal with various aspects of planning being undertaken for the future.

Local Authorities
All local authority web sites are important for their planning content. Many contain historical data, sometimes within library sub-sections and some provide details of future activities. It is therefore recommended that various aspects of these sites be collated, under direct access "favourite" web addresses. A good example would be Auckland City Libraries.
