The Environmental Defence Society has announced that the 2021 EDS Conference will take place from Wednesday 4 August to Friday 6 August 2021 at the Christchurch Town Hall.
This year, EDS’s 50th anniversary, the society will analyse the government’s environmental policy initiatives and emerging outcomes, highlighting areas needing urgent attention such as freshwater implementation, land use change, oceans management and sustainable fisheries.
EDS will also profile fresh thinking about oceans and fisheries reform, conservation law reform, better landscape outcomes, the ramping up of indigenous forest restoration, and resource management reform.
The conference is being held in Ōtautahi Christchurch because many of the pressing challenges are on or around the mainland, including on public conservation land. Ōtautahi Christchurch is also an exciting destination with plenty to offer, from outdoor activities in the stunning scenery to historical cultural experiences.
