Last Saturday saw a happy band of Civic Trust volunteers planting 50 native trees in the Harbutt Reserve, bordering Oakley Creek in Mt Albert, to celebrate our 50 year anniversary.
It’s part of the new cycle/walkway that starts from the edge of the Waterview Tunnel at Waterview, crosses Oakley Creek into the UNITEC grounds, and then links up green spaces all the way to Avondale.
Friends of Oakley Creek organiser Wendy John facilitated the procurement, the placement of seedlings and provided the equipment for our band of Civic Trust volunteers.
It was very rewarding to plant these natives, adding to the vegetation along the walkway. The weather was kind, and the post-planting coffee was excellent at The Lodge Cafe in Mt Albert.
Thanks to all the volunteer planters, to Wendy Johns, and to Audrey van Ryn for the original idea and planning for the day.
