The Minister of Transport has announced the final Reshaping Streets package of regulatory changes, which will give councils and communities more options to improve urban spaces and encourage healthier, safer and more sustainable travel.
Reshaping Streets will enable councils and communities to work together to modify their existing streets to make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to move around using a variety of different transport options, including walking, cycling, using mobility devices or public transport. This will support people to be more active, help reduce emissions, improve safety and contribute to making our towns and cities nicer places to live, work and do business.
These changes will be enacted as the Land Transport Rule Street Layouts 2023. This rule comes into effect on 21 August 2023.
More details about the rule changes are on the Waka Kotahi website.
