Winter lecture no. 2

This lecture was to be a talk entitled Partington’s Mill in Early Modern Auckland, given by Christopher Paxton, who specialises in historical and social research.  Unfortunately, Christopher was unable to be there on the day, and so the president and secretary of CTA jointly presented his notes, based on the photos the Auckland Library has of the windmill over its long life.

The talk was held at John Kinder House in Parnell on the afternoon of 10 August, and discussed flour mills in the early Auckland landscape, the impact of the Partington family, and Partington’s windmill and biscuit factory near Symonds Street.

Amongst the 16 attendees was Munroe Graham, author of The Partingtons and their Mills, recently published by CTA. Munroe was pleased to sign the copies of his book which were sold on the day.
