Since July, 15 North Shore Express 1 buses have been fitted with bike racks, enabling cyclists to finally take the bus across the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
The bike racks are inside with the passengers. The same space is used for wheelchairs, pushchairs, and mobility scooters, otherwise, it fits nine standing passengers. Buses with cycle racks have a green cyclist symbol on the outside of the bus.
People have been calling for bike across the bridge for some time, including CTA in its submissions, e.g., on page 3 of our submission on Auckland Council’s Long-term Plan 2024-2034
The AT Mobile app and eventually digital signage screens at bus stops will show which buses accommodate bikes.
