“The Politics of Heritage”

ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand has commissioned a research scholar to research The Politics of Heritage.  Leah Crisp has mapped the heritage policies of seven parties likely to enter parliament following the general election on 7 November.

The report sets out where each party’s published position supports heritage and where it falls short, compares those positions with the government’s Amplify strategy, and presents the results of a nine-question survey put to every party.

Of the seven parties, four responded to the survey: Labour, National, Opportunity, and Te Pāti Māori. ACT and New Zealand First did not respond, and the Greens declined to participate.

Leah has produced four outputs:

  • The Politics of Heritage report
  • Summaries of party positions
  • The Politics of Heritage Fact Sheet
  • Questions overview and responses
