Albert-Eden Local Board environmental programme

The Albert-Eden Local Board is playing a key environmental role with a $458,000 investment across a range of projects for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The board has approved its Environmental Programme, which enables the community to have more climate friendly programmes and to protect vulnerable ecosystems. The programme funds a wide range of projects and initiatives, such as eco events, EcoNeighbourhoods support, Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek, Waitītiko/Meola Creek restoration investment and more.

Local Board Chair Kendyl Smith says, “As a local board we’re also proud to provide funding to groups such as Urban Ark, Maungakiekie Songbird and Friends of Oakley Creek. These great organisations do fantastic mahi, with lots of volunteer hours, providing a productive investment to our community.”

One of the new initiatives is the Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre Pū Mātauranga/Education Hub activations programme. It will deliver a range of community zero waste and sustainability related workshops/activations.

There will also be a new Waste Festival, with creative ways to introduce more sustainable ways of living and making it easier for the community to feel comfortable around tacking waste solutions.
