In his latest opinion piece in the November Ponsonby News, Waitemata Councillor Mike Lee discusses the recently released maps of the proposed heritage overlays to be presented to the Unitary Plan Hearings Panel. He says that we will need to fight for our unique heritage landscapes.
He’s disappointed that entire suburbs will have no heritage overlays, although some of the inner suburbs have gained listings. He notes that around 9000 extra houses will now be subject to a heritage overlay – this still means that they can be demolished, but are now subject to the resource consent process, and will have heritage assessments.
