There is encouraging news for the Leys Institute, a Category 1 and Category A building in St Mary’s Bay which was closed on 20 December.
In outlining the board’s work programme for 2020/21, Waitematā Local Board Chair Richard Northey said:
“We’ve requested that the Governing Body contribute proceeds from the sale of the villa at 3 Ponsonby Road, towards the cost of the restoration of the Leys Institute buildings which are sorely missed and highly valued by the community and our board.”
The Board also states that they are “pleased that decisions made in the Emergency Budget mean that library hours won’t be cut, including at the libraries in our local board area, Central Library, Grey Lynn Library, Leys Institute Little Library and Parnell Library.”
