Yesterday, hundreds of people gathered at Mission Bay to call for an end to bottom trawling in the Hauraki Gulf – TÄ«kapa Moana. There were people on yachts, dinghies, waka, kayaks and paddleboards and on the beach.
The Hauraki Gulf is a national treasure. Once abundant, the gulf has been pushed to the brink by over a century of destructive industrial practices like bottom trawling.
If you want to take a stand against bottom trawling, and be part of the growing movement working to protect the moana – you can sign this Greenpeace petition or sign up to send a “Ban bottom trawling postcard to the Oceans & Fisheries Minister.
