Auckland Council’s Heritage team has started publication of an annual report called “Auckland’s Heritage Counts”.
Begun in 2018, this programme involves collecting statistics and research on Auckland’s heritage places to raise awareness of the economic and social benefits they bring.
It’s very colourful, with lots of easy to digest statistics, telling a positive story for heritage in Auckland.
For instance, 42% of Aucklanders live within 5 minutes’ walk of a protected heritage place, and 78% live within 1 km of a protected heritage place. And, 59% of protected heritage buildings are still used for their original purpose.
It’s intended to put out the 2019 report in September, to coincide with the Heritage Festival.
