Over 3000 square metres of land in the middle of the existing Heritage Protection Area alongside Long Bay Regional Park has been purchased by Auckland Council.
Long Bay is one of Auckland’s most highly visited regional parks, and with the nearby housing growth and development, visitor numbers are expected to keep increasing. The beach area is also very popular.
This addition to the park has been lobbied for by the Long Bay Okura Great Park Society for many years. Bruce Usher, the current Convenor of the society, says, “This important purchase will help preserve and enhance the rich heritage and beauty of the park.”
CTA was approached earlier this year to write to Auckland Council about the proposed purchase, and the Society has thanked us for our support letter sent to all councillors on 13 May.
