The Old Choral Hall on Symonds Street will soon look more like its old self, after work to seismically strengthen, upgrade and conserve the building will include the removal of later additions and the reconstruction of the classically-designed portico at the front entrance.
Designed by Edward Mahoney, the building dates from 1872. It was originally a concert chamber and public hall, seating over 1,000 people. From 1888 the building began to be used for teaching by the University College of Auckland and today it is still used for teaching.
