It having been brought to the notice of CTA that the horse hitching post in Parnell had become almost invisible due to the hedge surrounding it, we are pleased to report that the post has not only regained clear visibility, as befits a Category A item, but now sports a sign that informs people about its significance.

The sign reads:

“A reminder of an earlier time before self-propelled vehicles, this horse hitching post is thought to date from the 1860’s, and is understood to be the first item in the city chosen by Auckland City Council to be recognised for its historic value.”
