This week councillors were briefed behind closed doors on the proposed changes to the single house zone in the proposed Unitary Plan, from the notified draft. The changes are significant – from 35% of the city zoned single house zone, down to 21% in some areas.
This is a grave miscarriage of justice, as many residents now affected by these changes, would have been happy with their original zoning and will not have made submissions on the draft plan. They are now not permitted to make any submissions on these changes by council planners and the council will not be notifying the affected residents.
This situation is untenable, with the only recourse being through elected councillors.
