31 October is World Cities Day and this year the focus is on Communities and Cities. The Day has a focus on cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.
Sustainable Development Goal 11, is the ambition to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This year’s theme is embraced by the action and implementation of the New Urban Agenda, which is putting the topic of inclusive cities as one of the main pillars for the urban shift.
The New Urban Agenda was adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, on 20 October 2016 and endorsed by the UNGA at its 68th plenary meeting on 23 December 2016.
The The New Urban Agenda represents a shared vision for a better and more sustainable future.
