The draft of the refreshed Auckland Plan for the next 30 years was released this week. Built and historic heritage is completely absent from both the Plan Overview and the Full Draft Plan.
It seems that environmental and cultural heritage are now the only types of heritage in Auckland. A definition of cultural heritage doesn’t even include a recognition of built heritage.
The first Auckland Plan released in 2012 has an entire chapter of 14 pages on Historic Heritage. All this was achieved by Auckland’s community groups taking part in extensive feedback sessions and demanding that heritage was appropriately recognised.
Now we need to fight for it all again.
Please alert your networks on the vital importance of making a submission to the Auckland Plan 2050.
Submissions close on Wednesday 28 March.
