Protests outside Building One are ongoing. The one pictured was on 6 June.

Friends of Carrington Building One are organising these demonstrations, which take place near cafe Ol’Mate, 1 Carrington Road, Point Chevalier 11am –  midday on Saturdays. They want Building One, a Category 1 and Category A Building, to be protected. It is currently under threat from water ingress and vandalism.

Anyone is welcome at the protest. There is a lot of support from motorists driving by.

CTA’s submission on Private Plan Change 94 (Wairaka/Te Auaunga Precinct) in February 2024 included the following:

“CTA supports the precinct including policies that encourage the retention and adaptation of heritage buildings on the site, including the Former Oakley Hospital Building (Building One), as well as elements identified within the precinct …. We look forward to the adaptive reuse of Building One, not only retail, but for community activities…”
