Coastal wetland proposed to be excluded from NES for Freshwater

The Environmental Defence Society has submitted to the government on the Ministry for the Environment’s regulations on coastal wetlands saying that coastal wetlands should be included and that the NES-F provides a consistent approach to wetland management across all domains.

The EDS says that “”Removing coastal wetlands from the NES-F will leave a gap in their management and protection at the national level and leave too much discretion with regional councils.” They emphasise that wetlands are one of our most valuable ecosystems and have suffered extensive loss since human occupation.
