
Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre
This local board-funded recycling centre provides drop-off points for recyclables and reusables, supporting local environmental efforts. A new initiative is the Pū Mātauranga/Education Hub activations programme, which offers community zero waste and sustainability related workshops and activations.
Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek restoration
One of Auckland’s longest urban streams, this creek (pictured) provides a number of scenic walkways and local connections. The local board is aiming for swimmable water quality by 2040. Volunteering to help with this work can be through Friends of Oakley Creek.
Urban Ark
Urban Ark/ Manawa Taiao supports volunteer groups that manage more than 3,000 traps across Tamaki Makāuaru to reduce rats and possums.The board continues to provide financial and networking support to enable Urban Ark’s community-led conservation efforts.
Albert-Eden Garden Festival
The first-ever Garden Festival started last year, celebrating gardening, sustainability, and local community pride, with a number of activations, workshops, markets and delicious kai. The date of Garden Fest 2026 will be announced soon.
