Groups call on MPs to protect public conservation land

A coalition of Aotearoa New Zealand’s environmental and climate organisations has delivered a joint open letter to all Members of Parliament, calling on them to back legislation that would permanently prohibit commercial mining across all public conservation land and waters.  Civic Trust Auckland is one of those groups.

The groups urge MPs to support Green MP Lan Pham’s Crown Minerals (Prohibition on Mining on Conservation Land) Amendment Bill at its First Reading.

More than 24,000 submissions were made on the Conservation Amendment Bill.

On 19 September, New Zealanders will take to Queen Street once again for the March for Nature to ensure nature and climate remain at the top of the political agenda.
