Heritage Groups united at Unitary Plan Hearings

On Thursday 4 February, heritage groups from all over Auckland spoke with a united voice at the Unitary Plan Hearings.

The Panel are considering Topic 079 – Special Character and Pre 1944 Mapping.

The Character Coalition made a strong presentation, with statements from chair Sally Hughes, evidence from heritage architect Graeme Burgess and legal submissions from barrister Rob Enright.

Submitters from Cockle Bay, Howick, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Mt St John, Hill Park Residents’ Associations, Save our St Heliers, Tamaki Drive Protection Society, South Epsom Planning Group and Parnell Heritage reinforced the message that Aucklanders want robust and meaningful heritage protection. The submissions were well received by the Panel, who showed pleasing concern for good outcomes.

On Thursday 11 February Civic Trust Auckland, Devonport Heritage and Remuera Heritage will also reiterate our common goals.

Supporters would be welcome – 10am Level 16, 205 Queen St (cnr of Victoria St).
