Open Day at Scott Homestead, Scott’s Landing, Mahurangi

Once again our Open Day at Scott Homestead, Scott’s Landing, in the Mahurangi Regional Park, was a great success, with over 70 visitors braving the brisk westerly winds to walk along the beachfront.

The beautiful homestead, dating from 1877, was almost derelict when bought by the former Auckland Regional Council to form part of the new regional park. Civic Trust Auckland leased the building for 20 years and with volunteer help, slowly restored the homestead, handing it back to the ARC in 1995.

The picturesque grounds are well maintained by council, providing a lovely backdrop to the beach and views across to Mahurangi West.

We heard from the park ranger that council is contemplating the future of the homestead, and would like to have it more available to the public to use. Many of the day’s visitors were local residents, who relished the chance to see inside the house and would welcome more opportunities to have it available.
