The “castle” hosted 30 people for a comprehensive talk by Geoff Richards, the architect of the restoration and renovation works, full of interesting details about not just the recent building project but historical details about the site. Then attendees had the privilege of wandering at their leisure through the entire house and garden, hindered a little by the rain.
The house itself has been left as per its original design, with wings added on each side. This building has very generous spaces, including porches running the length of both the ground and second floors, as well as some intimate little spaces with beautiful architectural detail, furnishings and objects. The garden with raised planter boxes is very much a kitchen garden, supported by the adjacent large shed.
CTA is most appreciative to Charmaine Barnett, the owner, for the opportunity to see inside her house, and to Geoff for making himself available to talk and then answer our questions.
